Lena

Lena Horne died yesterday, so I thought I would pay homage.
At the beginning of her career at age sixteen, "..she joined the mike chorus of the Cotton Club and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood, where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather."

She was ground breaking and achieved so much despite the glass ceiling that many people encountered in the 1940s.
"... She was a woman who had a very powerful desire to lead her own life, to not be cautious and to speak out. And she was a woman, also, who felt in her career that she had been held back by the issue of race. So she had a lot of anger and disappointment about that. I'm talking particularly about her movie career." ...in the 1960s Lena became a civil rights activist.

Celebrities in America are style icons.. In the 1940s, and just in general Lena was definitely one.

She died at the age of 93.
