Antique

I had the pleasure of going to Greenfield Village and I was able to see antique knitting, weaving, and carding machines. It is interesting to see how far technology has come to make jobs like mine easier. Everything is faster than 100 years ago. Even though these machines are out of date, huge, heavy, slow and not computerized they have value because they were the steps to get us to where we are today. Its amazing that back then these machines were "the new gadget", "cool". They were cool because sometime before these inventions were around, like the carding machine ..cotton fibers were cleaned of their seeds by hand tools, so there was an even longer process to create yarns and eventually fabric. Now these inventions are part of history :]

cultural textiles

I really enjoy seeing beautiful fabrics and fabrics mean even more when they are not only beautiful but help define a various cultures. (I believe all of these are african textiles) These fabrics bring these cultures to life compared to just reading information in a textbook. The designs are engaging and the colors are vibrant.

Day at the Museum

Students like myself might sometimes have trouble being inspired for projects and such. During school one of my professors made me really think. The concept of thinking out of the box, I could really be inspired by anything! My class was sent to the museum to be inspired for one of our last projects of the semester. After my visit I was inspired by ancient jars from Rome.
