Project Runway

At my school we had a fashion show called Project Runway. In no way was it affiliated with a the Bravo show. The contestants showed a three garment collection, that was judged by the Project Runway contestant Andrae Gonzalo, last year Nick Verreos judged. I was accepted to present a line. I hesitated to decline, but with limited time and academic deadlines it was the best choice for me. It was great feeling to be accepted though. I went to the show to see what was presented. Everyone had creative collections. Andrae had interesting input. To paraphrase something he said, "fashion is something catches your eye twice, and catches your eye when it comes and when it leaves." One of his favorite designers is Tom Ford. He lives in California, is a freelance designer and teaches Color and Design at FIDM Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. My friend Caitlin and I were excited to take a picture with him!

William Rast

Long time friends Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala decided to team up and create a clothing line of their own...but who are the people behind the seams designing? A lot of celebs are making clothing lines (Jessica Simpson, Daisy Fuentes, Paris Hilton etc.) and I was curious if they are really designing or hiring designers. Justin has said, "The way I work with them is [I] give them ideas of lifestyle..." So in a MTV article I found that the designers of William Rast are Johan and Marcella Lindeberg. They take the design theme Justin has, and makes the design details of his clothing line. He has a vision and they are making the vision wearable. What do they want to show to their customers? What do they want to keep consistant throughout the line? What fabrics are most appealing? Do they want to sell tight fit clothing or loose fit? What is the color story? These are questions they are possibly thinking about.

The power to Inspire

Recycled bag

Last year at one of my favorite salons, Douglas J was selling an assortment of handbags that caught my eye. They were graphic, original, and something I couldn't easily buy anywhere else. I bought one for myself, and became even more excited about my purchase when I found out that it was made from a Billboard. The idea of making a bag out of that kind of material had not crossed my mind. The brand that made this bag is Relan. This is a great example of fashion going green.
