mixing prints

The key to mixing prints when you are putting together an outfit is to find a matching background color within both prints or within the motifs. The first look has a unifying orange and the second look has blue as the matching color. These designs were done by Nanette Lepore and Diane Von Furstenberg in their 2008 collections.

Payless

Payless has been trying to change their brand and image for years. Now they have designer shoes to enhance that image. These shoes are a great option if someone is looking for stylish shoes for a great deal. Its pretty exciting that they have Christian Siriano's brand there, he is so creative.

Betty got her braces off!!! :D

Yes! Tonight I got to see the marvelous event of Betty getting her braces FINALLY off! Wow its like a beginning of a new era in TV land. I never thought this day would happen! It had to come eventually because she already was transforming by the new clothes she has been wearing, her new hair style and her new glasses. These changes allow the character to grow into maturity as the story continues. These changes also set the stage for the series finale. There has been word of the show ending : / Even so it is so cool to see the show finish strong. To update from my last entry of Betty. I ended up getting season 1 for Christmas, season 2 at Blockbuster for a great bargain, and season 3 for Valentine's Day! I can't wait to get season 4, since that season is currently airing ..that won't be for a while. The episode that aired today was great! It was funny and was a lot different than how I thought it was going to happen. In the next episode Betty is going to London!..and she will run into old friends : D

15

In American culture, people value the age 16 as being a rite of passage and the celebration is called 'Sweet 16'. This celebration can be done in a very extravagant way as seen in the MTV show My Super Sweet 16. In Hispanic culture more emphasis is put on the year before, age 15, this celebration is called a Quinceanera or Quince for short. This celebration is more than just the big birthday party, there is an emphasis on faith, family, and friends who will be part of the ceremony that takes place before the party begins. The traditional Quinceanera dress is white or pink. Although, at the moment many girls are doing nontraditional colors, and any color will do. For the most part one thing about the dresses that continues to stay the same is that they are huge ball gowns much like what Cinderella would wear. That is why seeing the photographs above of a girl wearing a beautiful dress that has a shorter length is refreshing and new. This Quince was done in New York City. The dress has great detail and I love the sparkles. The cape finishes off the look in a very unique way. The look is fancy yet not over the top, and has a cutting edge appeal.

Portfolio

Yesterday was a long day...filled with classes and a big dead line...my lovely portfolio. All my pages were done it was just a matter of printing over 10 pages, cutting them and preparing the best presentation. I loved the end result, elements were matching so that  made a great first impression. I tried to accomplish my best work and effort and I know I achieved it! This was not only a class grade but also preparation for a future career. I learned a lot through the process. To achieve what I wanted it required planning and prioritizing. This process took many hours but seeing my pages fresh off the press and putting everything together is a very rewarding experience. It makes all the effort and time worth it and is truly a labor of love!

St. Patrick's

One thing I noticed is that on this holiday there is a unique custom that I don't think any other holiday has. This unique thing is the strong observance of dress or even a certain 'uniform' that is embraced. Everyone isn't wearing the same outfits but the same color, GREEN or shades/tints of it. Of course this is voluntary but there is always that saying that whoever doesn't wear green will get pinched. This custom is fun because you can be different, wear outrageous accessories and gear while wearing the same color and it is acceptable for this one day out of the year. If everyone were to wear matching colors throughout the year...it may be a little weird but on this one day it is the exception to the norm. Another thing that I thought was interesting about this holiday is that anyone can enjoy it across the globe. The celebration crosses ethnic backgrounds, and beliefs. We are all different but on March 17th we can express our dress in the same way...by wearing green.

Yeay

I had my model fitting for my muslin pants and it went fantastic! I was worried about the fit, even before I designed them. Drafting pants require so many measurements, and requires very precise and technical principles to produce it. One mistake could be a catastrophic... So that is why I am so happy! No unnecessary pulling at the waist, crotch, and buttocks. :P ...On to the next step toward the finish line!

Bonkers

After watching Alice and Wonderland I have to say that the costumes were awesome and helped create the world of Wonderland. Each costume and accessory told the story of the character. The film paid attention to detail! I really enjoyed seeing the different versions of Alice's blue dress thoughout the film. The various fabrics were intriguing and beautiful. The opening weekend raised $116.1 million in the Box Office.

What is the meaning

Across the US the Burberry brand is associated with wealth, and a status symbol. In different countries clothing can mean different things. It is just that Americans translated this brand into that kind of symbol.

...In England where Burberry comes from, that brand does not have the same definition in any way. It is actually looked down upon if you wear it and you can often be turned away from pubs because of the culture and violent behavior of 'the firm', and 'hooliganism' associated with the clothing/image. So don't wear it in England!  "...gang members began wearing designer clothes (such as Fred Perry, Burberry, Lacoste, Lonsdale, Umbro, Paul and Shark) and expensive offhand sportswear.." Burberry in England is the equivilant to wearing certain colors to identify a member of a gang like red clothing in the US.

Trendy

This dress and skirt look pretty similar right? Well they are from different stores. The first is from Walmart, from Miley Cyrus' line with Max Azria. and the second is from Laren Conrad's line at Kohl's. I also saw a skirt in this style at Macy's too. Just goes to show that even though these labels are trying to be different and compete, their products are created to look almost identical - with the ruffles and elastic waist. It is definitely nice for the customers who see these trendy products in various stores and they then have the ability to shop around and get the best/cheapest prices. Although, this does not necessarily benefit the retailer because this 'Price War' will not benefit them and they will loose money.
